(right photo) "At the recent Texas Society Sons of the American Revolution Annual Meeting in Sugar Land a non-firing replica Kentucky Flintlock Rifle was the “star” of the Silent Auction. Choice Community Services, a professional HOA MANAGEMENT COMPANY, donated the rifle to the auction. “The museum quality rifle was manufactured in Spain by Denix and is a superbly accurate representation. The design is based on existing pieces in museums and private collections. The manufacturing facility in Spain burned down in the fall of 2005.” To date there are no plans to rebuild the factory which makes the rifle even more collectible."

"Lauren Lanning, Miss Texas USA presented the Kentucky Rifle to winning bidder James J. (Jim) Johnson, Jr., of the Denton and McKinney chapters. The presentation was made at the March 17th Saturday Night Banquet on behalf of the Alexander Hodge Chapter #49 TXSSAR by Miss Lanning. Upon accepting the rifle, Jim Johnson, TXSSAR Color Guard Commander, thanked her for “helping to arm the color guard”. The rifle will be actively used in color guard ceremonies and presentations."

"There was some speculation prior to the close of the Silent Auction as to what specifically inspired the “brisk” bidding. Was it solely the rifle or was the presentation a factor?" Photograph courtesy of Mike Green
